So an initiative to provide dialysis for patients on holiday in Wales is a very encouraging development. Southern Derbyshire Health Authority's initiative has placed a portable dialysis unit at Dinlle Caravan Park near Caernarfon. This North Wales site for the ' dialysis caravan' was chosen as a convenient location for many of the authority's home dialysis patients to visit on holiday. Paul Roome, the Authority's Chief Technician, said: " We already have three bookings and we are planning to take a number of our home haemodialysis patients away there next year for a week at a time. Usually patients going on holiday have to book into a local hospital for dialysis, which can often be full. So it can be very difficult for them to go away." Gambro are delighted that our equipment is part of the cabin's two dialysis units. Two of our IntegraTMDiacard monitors are installed, each with a WRO 300 water supply. The BBC took an interest in the story and quoted dialysis patient Dave Clarke who said: " This will make a world of difference. I have a touring caravan and normally we can only go away for two days before I have to return for dialysis. This will mean we can go away for much longer." It is essential to ensure that all connections are tightly secured, including the line to the return pressure sensor above the de- aeration chamber or bubble trap. This simple procedure guarantees a successful self prime test, freeing up the user's time and preventing unnecessary delays to the patient's treatment. During treatment, should the barrier isolator on the return line above the bubble trap become wet, a replacement piece can easily be attached. This allows treatment to be maintained and set changes minimised. The barrier isolators can be ordered separately ( product code 101960, description " Pressure Transducer VP- 2").
