I'm delighted therefore that we are delivering on this promise. In particular, it won't be long before hospitals are able to benefit from what our new AK 96 ® monitor has to offer. I am excited about this product as it is a compact system that saves valuable space, while still integrating with Gambro's portable water treatment systems to ensure the continuity of the hygienic chain. Safety has been uppermost in our minds when developing the monitor and it follows a comprehensive safety philosophy comprising conductivity measurement, UF cells, complete function checks, and an intuitive user interface and processes. The AK 96also delivers additional treatment features such as DiascanTMwhich provides a quality assurance tool giving on- line clearance measurement and Kt/ V surveillance for all patients, at every session. We had great faith that the monitor would deliver solid standard dialysis treatment and a high degree of reliability, as well as being easy to operate for both in- centre and home patient use. This faith has been put to the test through in vivo Alpha and Beta UK field trials at the Churchill Hospital earlier this year. Continued on page 2... Highlights No 25 October 2008 magazine

Clamp replacement on Gambro's bloodlines Gambro are introducing improved pinch clamps into our bloodline portfolio. The new arterial clamps will be red and the venous blue, allowing easy identification of different parts of the tubing system. They also feature wrinkles for easy gripping to ensure the clamp is closed correctly, therefore reducing the likelihood of any blood loss from the patient, especially during the disconnection process. " Gambro's clamps are already used by nurses and healthcare assistants across the country," says Samantha Ford, Marketing Manager. " Now the improved clamps will make them even easier to use successfully." The colour- coded clamps will be phased into all of Gambro's bloodlines, cartridges and accessories in the coming months. New style pinch clamps will also be introduced to our drain bags, again ensuring ease of use and guaranteed safety. The new clamps are made from Polypropylene which eliminates stress- cracking and has higher rigidity for enhanced safety and reliability. It is also more environmentally friendly as it is manufactured without the use of chlorine, thus eliminating the hazards of deadly dioxin releases during manufacture and incineration. Commenting upon the trials, Churchill's Chief Technician Andy Mosson said: " I was impressed with the clean lines of the AK 96and our nursing team were able to adapt to its use reasonably easily. The technical team liked the improved access and layout and in terms of technical performance the machine performed well." The AK 96is being previewed prior to its launch in the UK next year at this month's ART National Meeting & Exhibition, so you may be able to take the opportunity to see it for yourself then. For more information about the AK 96please contact Brian May, Product Manager for Capital Equipment and Technical Services, on 01480 444016 brian. may@ gambro. com A new way to record service information Of course, Gambro DNA is in many cases continuing product and service development activity that was already happening prior to the programme's launch. Last month for example, we launched a new tool to record all the service interventions on our products, replacing an interim version introduced towards the end of 2007. The new tool is the Gambro Field Service ( GFS) reporting platform and it completes New filter allows gentle treatment for low- weight patients Gambro's new Polyflux ® 2H dialyser is the latest innovation in our low body weight product range. This high- flux filter, with a surface membrane of 0.2m2 and filling volume of 17ml, is in addition to our Polyflux 6H dialyser ( 52ml). Our dialysers provide enhanced clinical benefits to low- weight patients through the consistent removal of a wide range of uremic toxins and selectivity ( no albumin loss) with the Polyamix three- layer structure membrane. You can expect high bioequivalence levels associated with our other Polyfluxfilters. Gambro also provide advanced bloodlines designed to meet the unique requirements of delicate treatments of low- weight patients. With the low priming volumes
